Miss Wisconsin Teen USA
Miss Wisconsin Teen USA 2017
Abby Bryson, 18, of Brookfield, Wisconsin, is currently enrolled in her freshman year at Texas Christian University. Upon winning eight awards in high school at the Scholastic Writing and Art competition, with one art piece that advanced to the national competition in New York, she knew she wanted to pursue her studies in the art field. She is currently studying graphic design at the College of Fine Arts at TCU.
Abby is the daughter of John and Lisa Bryson, who reside in Brookfield, Wisconsin. She has two older sisters, Megan who is 22 and graduated from Shepherds College, and Elizabeth who is 25. Elizabeth is a fellow horned frog that graduated from Texas Christian University in 2014. In addition, Elizabeth was also Miss Wisconsin Teen USA in 2009. Abby and her family share their house with their soft-coated wheaten terrier, Gunner, and west highland terrier, Dallas.
As a type 1 diabetic, Abby has made it her mission to give back to the type one diabetic community and educate others about the disease. Both her and her family have been involved with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) since Abby was diagnosed in October, 2005. Through this disease, Abby has had many opportunities to give back and raise awareness of the disease through participating in walks, runs, bike rides, and galas. Her and father John participated in a 100-mile bike ride organized by JDRF in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to raise money to fund research to find a cure. Her biggest accomplishment with her platform was being appointed by the executive board to be the youth ambassador for the JDRF Southeastern Wisconsin chapter in 2010. She spent the year sharing her personal experience with type one diabetes with other kids and families who struggled with the disease. She was also able to present a speech in Milwaukee at the annual JDRF gala that year in front of hundreds of donors and JDRF affiliates.
Abby also had the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica her senior year of high school with other students from her school. Her and twenty other students traveled to Costa Rica for a week over spring break, spending three days with a host family who spoke no English, and the last four days traveling around the city. She enjoyed this trip because it opened her eyes to how other cultures live their everyday lives. She hopes to continue her love of travel in college by participating in a study abroad program learning about art in places like Europe or South America.
In her free time, Abby loves to experiment with new makeup products, complete Pinterest DIYs, work out, or try to find the best chocolate cake or baked potato at new restaurants with her friends. As a true Wisconsinite, you will find the drawer in her family’s refrigerator fully stocked with cheese, and find her cheering on her favorite sports team, the Green Bay Packers. Upon graduation, Abby hopes of following in her parent’s footsteps of being business entrepreneurs and start a makeup company with her mom and sister, Elizabeth, or work for a large design company that collaborates with well-known companies around the world. She is extremely honored and grateful for being chosen to represent Wisconsin at the 2017 Miss Teen USA pageant.
