“It's an odd concept, to be sure. When you're competing for the title, all you want to here at the finals is your name. The field is about to be narrowed to the Top 15, and every girl is silently praying ‘Please say my name, please say my name.’ The same thing happens again, this time when the field narrows to 5. ‘Please say my name, please say my name.’ After that, everything does a 180, and all you can think is ‘Do NOT say my name!’ I was the lucky one girl that didn't hear my name.....not until the very end, and I knew it would change my life forever.”
Emily Cristine Guerin became Miss Wisconsin USA 2012 on September 18th, 2011. Six weeks after deciding to run, she took home the crown. It was an unorthodox road to be sure, but she was ecstatic with the new opportunities that would now be open to her. Although new to the pageant world, she credits her success to others.
"Besides my beautiful mother, who made sure I could walk in heels by the age of 9, I give a huge amount of credit for my success to the training program of WorldVentures, a company I work with. Their commitment to personal and business development has made me a better friend, communicator, business woman, and human being. Their training transcends in to all areas of my life, preparing me to take on any challenge that may come my way."
Emily is the daughter of Dr. Lance and Diana Guerin, and is the older sister of Austin Guerin. She is extremely close with her entire family, and considers them not only her emotional rocks, but her best friends. She attended high school in Monroe, WI and then moved to Colorado for a few years. It was there that she first started attending Online Trading Academy, a school specializing in stock trading. She started a business at the age of twenty, and has traveled all across the US with that business. Her interests are wide spread, and make it easy for her to relate to all different types of people she encounters. Some of these interests include: traveling, personal development, sports, theatre, reading, languages, business, singing, and yoga, to name a few. She also wants to get involved in the film industry, as performing has always been the driving passion of her life.
She is extremely interested in using her Miss Wisconsin USA name to promote some very specific causes. First would be her favorite charity, Hug It Forward.
"Hug It Forward is a 501c3 non-profit that blends intangible change with tangible change globally with one goal, uniting people as one. The intangible change is provided by raising awareness of global issues and by demonstrating that we are all one people. Everybody has the power to be the change, by living their passion and giving back to society. We exist to help people along that journey. The tangible change is provided by empowering communities to unite and work together towards a common goal: building schools built out of wasted trash bottles called "bottle schools". Bottle schools have many many benefits. You can see a video of how bottle schools are made at www.hugitforward.org"
She is also extremely passionate about working with kids on financial literacy. She believes that our educational system has a tendency to fall short in this area, and that we can only expect people to take personal responsibility in fields like this if we give them the tools and information they need to learn.
"I see this title as an awesome opportunity. With notoriety comes responsibility, but also the chance to be a catalyst for change on a much larger level. That excites me; the ability to leverage this position to further the causes I'm most passionate about. I am going to make a huge impact on this world, and this is just the beginning."
